For three summers in a row, I attended a summer program for opera in New Mexico. At LEOI, I got to work with coaches and instructors of excellent caliber and reputation in the opera world. I have also sung at Carnegie Hall with the University of Tulsa Capella Chamber Singers in which I was the soprano section leader for the year. I always start with a strong Classical Foundation, and also specialize in Musical Theatre and Contemporary Styles. Some students love classical music, and we work on Italian arias...while others love 80s Metal Bands, and we work on healthy ways to approach contemporary music. Music is not made by the instrument be it voice, piano, trumpet or any other. Remember music is made by and comes through The Musician! I teach about how to be a musician. When students feel like musicians it fosters a greater sense of ownership and accomplishment bringing the joy needed to advance exponentially. I am warm and vulnerable, I find being open is the best way to develop my students' trust. Trust is key. It is important to me that students progress at their own pace however slow or fast that may be. I help set goals for development that are challenging but realistic. I have recently finished the fourth and final year of my doctorate degree in voice at the University of Oklahoma and am currently working on my dissertation. At OU, I studied with former Metropolitan opera baritone Kim Josephson. I was a good singer when I arrived at OU, but Kim, who has taken lessons from the opera legend Corelli himself, has transformed how I sing.
