Singing lessons should always be fun and positive. A student should come out of a voice lesson with new knowledge that they can then go and apply during their practice at home. I am a firm believer that most of the learning is done outside the lesson through the student's application of what he/she learned during the lesson. My belief is that I am a guide to the student, but the student must meet me halfway, so that we can learn from each other, work together, and find what works best for the student's voice. Read More

For students of all ages, I start with a small book focusing on the essential elements of the instrument while teaching them something fun and recognizable. As basic techniques are acquired and musical concepts are grasped, I tailor the lesson to what the students long term goals are. I teach all levels and my methods depend on the age and skill level of each student. Everybody learns differently and has different musical goals so I stay open-minded and tailor my lessons on an individual basis. for children and beginners, I focus on technique and very basic theory to get them started playing the songs they like. I never assume a student cannot succeed. Progress comes quickly with a variety of songs supported by successive exercises and methodology. Parental involvement is highly recommended and I try to work with parents to determine motivational techniques. I have found that students need a regular practice time 4 to 5 times a week, even if it is only a few minutes at a time; but, hopefully, we can find music that they like to sit down and play. I teach always. I teach by example, and I teach formally. My formal teaching background begins in church when I was 19. I did my mom a favor and started teaching/leading the children's choir.
