Practice regularly, listen to other musicians that play the same instrument as you, listen to musicians that don't play the same instrument, talk with other musicians, share ideas, live in a world where you eat, sleep, breath, and love music, and be friendly and open minded. I have been playing the cello since just before 6th grade and have played consistently until college where I continue to play solos and in an ensemble. I am currently attending Austin Community College for a degree in Music Composition. On top of cello, I have arranged and composed multiple pieces that I had the opportunity to play with the school orchestra for both projects and just for fun, including arrangements for 4 cellos, and small ensembles. I typically use a book for the basis of reference, and then encourage the student to go beyond the notes on the page.
