Instruments: Voice Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Flute Clarinet Drums Recorder Euphonium French Horn Tuba Oboe Bassoon
My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had. If I was to emphasize anything about learning the art, it would be the understanding of interpretation and how to make any music into something that is uniquely yours. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
For my voice students, I generally do not use a method book since I believe each student will have different goals and different tastes in music. While I believe that classical training is beneficial to develop strong technique, I also know that we can help you to develop a solid technical foundation through all styles of singing including pop, jazz, musical theatre and folk. For your first lesson we will discuss your desires and goals, and from there I will provide sheet music, handouts, and other supplemental materials. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Viola
My teaching style is receptive and warm, but focused. I use goal-setting as a satisfying and organized way to break down musical lessons, which means lessons time is well spent and students have a good understanding of how and what to practice. Students remain engaged and satisfied with this approach, which provides proof of the progress that is taking place in lessons and in private practice time. Since music learning is highly cumulative, it's important to me that students have a thorough understanding of principles before moving on to new ones. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
For piano, I like to begin with fundamentals such as five finger exercises and musical literacy teachings to ensure growth of musical understanding as well as proper technique. I have had great success using the Faber and Faber book series, as this gets students in the music quickly. From there, there is so much solo repertoire to explore! I have a passion and preference for classical composers, but have experience with pop and modern techniques as well. Read More
Instruments: Voice Fiddle Music
I've been teaching and leading sectionals for four years now, and have taught lessons on both fiddle and voice! It's an honor to be able to spread the love of music to students, as music has changed my life. Consistent practice is important, but so is finding what the student loves to practice. Music should be fun, even as it's hard work! Students are encouraged to write, explore their own creativity, and explore other avenues of music beyond performance, like learning music theory and notation, as well as the basics of music software, if they're interested. Instruments: Voice Clarinet
I started private tutoring for Clarinet dating back to high school and have continued to do so. I have been giving private voice lessons for the past 5 years. I encourage regular practice and lesson schedule. I have found that the more a student puts into their learning the more dedicated and passionate they will be for the art. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Voice Harmonica Electric Guitar Acoustic Guitar
Practice Practice Practice! and wanting to practice. Probably the most important thing in music at first. The biggest problem is method in itself. There is not just one way to teach everyone. Music is a lifelong study. It never ends. So learning should be the encouragement of accomplishment. Which has to involve learning some theory but focus on mechanical and listening skills as well. Whether we practice the same drum beat over and over or strumming the same chords its here that we find what we call music. Read More
