My goal with all students is that they enjoy learning, become self-motivated to practice, and consider their musical abilities as a gift which they can choose to share with others whenever they feel comfortable to do so. I have experience using a variety of method books and can easily recommend appropriate materials. I taught private guitar lessons continuously, while in highschool and college. In between engagements in my performing career, I would always return to teaching. In 1992 I was certified by Dr. L Scott Martin, Phd from Juilliard, to teach vocal performance at his Academy of the Arts in Denver, and I have continued to the present, to coach young singers to express themselves with music. I have been blessed in helping many of my students to reach some impressive accomplishments in music, such major record deals, appearances on TV and Film, and getting in to some great music colleges. For beginning students, I focus on the essentials of theory and intervals and combine with the Voice for Life method. Each lesson is tailored to the student's needs and goals, so no lesson is exactly alike in structure. For intermediate to advanced students, I focus on aural (ear) training, sight singing and rhythm and follow it with prepared pieces in order to be "audition ready".
