I believe every student has the capacity to sing and perform music, and empowering students to feel comfortable expressing themselves musically is one of my highest and most constant objectives. I work with students to understand what their goals are, what their interests are, what their backgrounds are, and we work together to create an educational trajectory that meets these goals. It's important to me that students enjoy our lessons and the work we do together. Read More

Music lessons can incorporate a variety of approaches depending on student preference and abilities. Some students love to read notation. I encourage these students to develop auditory skills through imitation games and improvisation. Other students play by ear and prefer to memorize all pieces. I encourage these students to learn to read notation and to look at the notes when playing familiar pieces. For young children, I create short musical tunes they can read using colors. Read More

Whenever I meet with someone, I feel it's always best to get to know them and ask them "why music?". From there it sparks a conversation, and we start setting goals - which is super important! This is how we check in with ourselves along the way to make sure that the student is getting the most out of their lessons. I will also ask them questions about their practice regimen (if they already have one) and come up with improvements to help them practice more efficiently. Read More

My performance experience has taken me to many wonderful places--College bowl games and the NCAA Tournaments to international hotspots such as Bogota, Columbia and even as far away as China. I have also been fortunate enough to perform with musical icons such as Doc Severinson, Mariachi Cobre, Byron Stripling, John Fedchock, Bobby Shew, Five by Design, Club Swing, the Harry James Orchestra, Andre Williams, and notable groups such as the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, Phil Campo and the "Loose Change" Jazz band, the Salt Lake Alternative Jazz Orchestra, and many others. As professional musician, I've been taught trough classical theory training, but as jazz major I also know a lot about jazz theory which gave me both approaches to teaching in the most efficient and comfortable way that the student ask me to, ( not everybody learns in the same way for sure). I'm also excited about learning from my students because it is something that I do like and appreciate a lot. Read More

My studio exists to help the everyday singer or the gifted vocalist with aspirations of a music career. Many people wish to sing better but never do anything about it. People often try to imitate established singers, hoping to produce the 'sound' that these others have accomplished. In my studio, each studentwill know the excitement of discovering his or her uniquely beautiful sound. Learning to sing better should always be an uplifting, activity, thoughmy 'kids', regardless ofage. In order tosing with ease and freedom, a singer must feel free to explore. My lessons encourage personal freedom so that learning can take place. For beginning piano students, I use Alfred's All-in-one Piano Course books. These books combine repertoire and theory, thereby cutting down on the number of books a new student needs to purchase. I use a variety of materials for voice students. I may ask that my voice students purchase books of repertoire that contain songs useful for building on their strengths and working on their weaknesses. However, I also have an extensive music library in my home studio. Read More
