The joy of teaching privately comes from the discovery of each individual studen's relationship with music and helping it to grow. For me, a love of teaching was secondary, a natural consequence of first developing a love for music. By adapting pace, materials, and methods to the individual while still maintaining high standards and remaining positive, it is my goal to help the student find their own love of music via their own path. I teach the fundamentals of music, and I make sure you know how to read music. Piano can be a challenging instrument to learn and play, but I can teach you the tricks to make it easy. For example, I can teach you to play and sing Beatles songs in two to three weeks. I highly encourage my students to be creative, but I don't require it. Creativity can be utilized even when you are playing Mozart or Bach. I also teach improvisation, songwriting, and music production with Ableton Live. Read More

I start by gathering information about a student's goals and inspirations, and prior knowledge/experience. From there, we develop a plan for warmup exercises, technical exercises, literature, sight-reading, ear-training and listening excerpts to be studied. I determine whether the student needs to begin learning primarily by ear or using some kind of written notation. We find a schedule that will work with both of us. Most students have a regular weekly time, but some students need a variable time due to their individual schedule so we work that out in advance. Read More

I love setting lofty, reasonably challenging goals for my students and giving them music they think is too hard to play, and then watching their faces light up when they hit all the right notes they didn't know were possible to hit. I have multiple guitars of varying sizes for children and beginners, an upright piano (pictured), stage equipment, recording equipment, keyboards, tuners, strings, etc. I incorporate proper instrument care, music history and love convincing students to love new genres, styles and cultures of music. I studied with Dr. Kevin Call, a viola student of both Don McInnes and William Primrose himself. I worked closely with Dr. Read More
