I have most recently had the opportunity to teach a college course at CalArts, private lessons to college level students at the institute, and group voice classes to K-3rd graders through the Community Arts Partnership. Before earning my bachelor's degree in K-12 Music Education in 2020, I held a longtime position as a tenor vocalist and choral leader with First Christian Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and post-degree as a K-12 music teacher in dual-language immersion public schools and technology-focused charter schools in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Simple breathing techniques, Hal Leonard's Vocal Warmups, is a good book I use for beginners levelsand other techniques will be taught to my beginners. We will discuss each student's goals and what they hope to accomplish in their classes. I will ask each student to sing a couple of notes and songs that I have prepared in order to assess their vocal range (alto, soprano, etc.). With the song of your choice, we will go over tone, vowel placements, translations, and performance enhancers (supporting additional sound, staging, etc.) to make the song your own and better than you have performed before. My desire is to bring your musical goals into focus through education and creative participation. I believe piano instruction should be geared to the student, fun and casual, yet challenging and inspiring. I also believe patience and encouragement are essentials to a great lesson experience. I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Music Education from Wartburg College in 2004.  I then moved to Wisconsin where I was a middle school and high school choir director for seven years.  There I taught chorus, private and group voice lessons, piano class, general music class, and also organized the middle school talent show.  I later moved on to Hawaii where I taught private voice and piano lessons through Musikgarten Hawaii. I like to use a wide variety of materials, from classical to jazz music.  CLARINET: For clarinet students, I use "standard" conservatory etude and scale books (such as the Rose Studies and Behrmann Studies).  I also use the Jamey Abersold Jazz Methods, which feature CD 'play-a-long' recordings of jazz music.  I also have my students perform a wide range of solo music, from 'standards' like the Mozart Clarinet Concerto to 20th century repertoire by composers like Bernstein, Copland and others.  I think it is important for students to be able to play jazz and improvise, so I teach them about Blues and how to play jazz, as well as classical music.
