For beginning students, I strive to teach the basics of music theory while learning the fundamentals of producing characteristic tone on their instrument. I typically start by working through the Essential Elements method book and introduce solos, ensembles, and orchestral excerps when appropriate. I have been sightreading music once before I could read English, and I am well-versed is several different sets of training booklets for piano. Most of my students were beginners, and we worked together for over a year.
