The body is an important part of singing. My lessons often incorporate fun, sometimes silly but Always useful movement. I like to send students home with one challenge every week, and a larger challenge for every month. Success feels good for any student, and short term goals that tie in to long term goals are a good way to keep feeling inspired and developing a drive to succeed. Students are encouraged to bring in music they would actually ENJOY singing, in addition to music I assign based on various vocal challenges. Read More

I teach a variety of music to a variety of people, ranging from classical composition to hip-hop songwriting and production, classical voice to pop, rock, and punk vocals, baroque piano to free jazz synthesizers, and maybe noteverything in between, but I try to get close.I have been teaching privately since 2006, with a special focus on teaching both children and adults with special needs. On top of that, I also am an adjunct instructor and engineer at Borough Manhattan Community College, where I teach students and other faculty alike the ins and outs of the recording studio. Read More

One of my favorite parts of teaching is supporting my students in the development of their authentic voices. Every student is unique and special in their own way, that's why I tailor each lesson for that specific student and I meet them exactly where they are. This allows the student to progress at their own pace. I encourage this development by setting realistic goals for each lesson, and acknowledging their accomplishments. Read More

I draw inspiration largely from my Rudolf Steiner-inspired pre-college education and my Carl Orff-inspired higher education. Waldorf/Steiner education "emphasizes the role of imagination in learning, striving to integrate holistically the intellectual, practical, and artistic development of pupils" while the Orff Approach "combines music, movement, drama, and speech into lessons that are similar to child's world of play." The most important thing for me as a teacher is to see my students having fun, and really enjoying learning their instrument. I want to see them be passionate about getting better because they’re excited about what’s coming next. By learning about the students goals, and also learning about their musical taste and the kinds of music that inspire them, I can create a lesson plan that totally dedicated to each individual student so that they get the most out of their lesson, and so that I get them closer to their goal. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio and conservatories/colleges more than 18 years. Encouraging regular practice is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I encourage my students to enter competitions and recitals, since I believe the performance motivates and help to grow any level of students. Read More
