I've taught voice at Northwest University for the past 5 years. In 2010, I joined the faculty of the Bellevue School of Music, and last fall began teaching at the Gene Nastri Community School of the Arts in Mukilteo. I also conduct a church choir. I believe strongly that it is important for anyone who sings to study classical technique, regardless of what style of singing they wish to do. Each and every student will respond differently to instruction, and I am proud to say that I am extremely adaptable. I want to make sure that I am communicating with each individual in a way that they will understand and be successful with, because the student is the most important variable. I enjoy teaching students of all ages! I have taught in the public school for 35 years and have worked with over 5000 students of all ages! I enjoy creating original music in my recording studio and have written many songs. I have played guitar and sang for the Miss Washington program and performed as a solo artist as well as with other musicians. I will casually introduce and regularly reinforce music theory concepts to give the student a general understanding of what they are learning and how everything connects, enabling them with the ability to learn music by listening to a piece and reading rudimentary chords, as opposed to being locked in to only reading sheet music. When I teach teenagers or adults I usually start with Alred’s Basic Adult Piano Course Book, as well as a music theory book that is suited to the student. I like Alfred’s series for the young beginner as well, but have also used the Bastien series. For voice students I use a warm up book and a sight singing book. My students keep a music notebook of the week’s assignments in which I also make music theory notes and explanations. Read More
