My goal is to give my students the ability to self assess. They should be able to feel when they are singing correctly, without me always pointing it out. They learn these skills through scales, basic anatomy and physiology, physical exercises, visualization etc. I am kind, patient, supportive, and always do my best to uplift my students. My favorite moments while teaching is the light bulb moments, for these to occure lessons are goal based and created around the students level of exsperiece, future goals, and personal goals. In the first lesson we set mini goals for each lesson, medium goals for the month, and large goals for something we want to work towards or a up and coming competition. I use a positive environment to help student feel good about their accomplishments, but also have them discover areas of improvement by recording them or asking them what they feel they did well and what they feel they need to work on. I began teaching music in high school, a friend coworker had a son that wanted to learn trumpet and it was a fun way to make money. As I continued into college, I learned that I was able to give lessons to members of the band or choir as an employee to the Adrian College Academic Services Department and I was happy to do so. In addition to Adrian College students, I also gave lessons to local high schoolers (mostly tuba players) and many where featured and scored well in state Solo and Ensemble exhibitions. Read More
