I am a classically trained singer with a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance who lives, performs, and teaches in New Orleans. I frequently perform professionally in several genres of music, including opera, jazz, musical theatre, and pop. I also have several years of experience teaching in all of these genres. I sing with the New Orleans Opera and St. Cecilia's Asylum Chorus, in addition to fronting my jazz band, the Melanie Gardner Quintet, which performs regularly on Frenchmen Street and around the city. My goal is to inspire and invigorate my students with the gift of music. Scales and fingering/vocal exercises can become boring and tiresome especially for new and younger students. I find ways to make these more mundane parts of the lesson fun with games and veiled learning that keep students engaged.
