I began to teach young children at elementary levels while at Indiana University. Despite their high-caliber collegiate music curriculum, they also have one of the world's esteemed Suzuki method schools led by pedagogues who even started Joshua Bell. I was lucky enough to dive under their wing and really learn the fundamentals of Suzuki teaching, or inspiring fresh minds from the core level. My teaching experience is probably not as great as others, but I am working towards it being something fantastic! I started teaching students in my Junior year of high school. They were sixth graders, and I would occasionally work with seventh and eighth graders. I do my best to make lessons fun and interesting for each student by tailoring the lessons to their needs and interests - in addition to classical music I am happy to incoporate music from other genres too. I am not Suzuki certified but I utilize the early Suzuki violin books for repertoire; that being said, I always take the requests of students into account meaning it is important to me that students are learning music they are excited about learning. For beginners who are new to music as a whole, I employ volumes 1 and 2 of "I Can Read Music" to get students learning both pitch and rhythm in easy, digestible, sections. Read More
