Overview:
Starting at the age of 6, the violin has not left my side. As I invested more blood, sweat, and tears into honing the craft, I knew I would take the art into a professional level especially after a number of success at local competitions in the Greater Seattle Area. I moved on to graduate at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, studying with one of the most recognized concertmasters in the world, Alex Kerr. Some of my favorite memories during those years was performing at Carnegie Hall for New York String Seminar in New York City. The past few years, I finished an orchestral fellowship program with The Orchestra Now in upstate New York where we performed all around the city including, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and Alice Tully Hall.
EXPERIENCE
I began to teach young children at elementary levels while at Indiana University. Despite their high-caliber collegiate music curriculum, they also have one of the world's esteemed Suzuki method schools led by pedagogues who even started Joshua Bell. I was lucky enough to dive under their wing and really learn the fundamentals of Suzuki teaching, or inspiring fresh minds from the core level. Witnessing kids that once followed their parents to another lackluster lesson bouncing off the walls with excitement after experiencing an enjoyable lesson helped me to discover the passion in teaching.
METHODS USED
As a student of the Suzuki method myself, I value the steps taken with the Suzuki books. I however prefer to mix things up here completely depending on the level and pace of every student I encounter. I believe that there are a great number of etude and scales practice books out there that are essential for every violinist whether they are a beginner or advanced so I make sure to introduce my students to those basic "text books" if you will. Namely, Sevcik and Yost for shifting, Carl Flesch or Simon Fischer for scales, Kreutzer for etudes, and so forth!
LESSON STYLE
I highly value personalizing my teaching towards every individual student. I believe that everyone needs to acquire their own pace, because it's not how quickly one learns something, it's how much they grasp out of each aspect. I like to focus on the bigger picture- where you'll be in the long run,- rather than running a timed race. I love to see a student truly master what was once foreign to them and see the understanding and fulfillment that they likewise experience! I always make sure that my student fully understands why or what they are working on so that they find meaning in what they are practicing while on their own.
