I also use innovative methods to teach all instruments. I encourage my students to select their own repertoire. It is also encourage to perform at least 3 times a year in recitals. Firstly, I think building a good rapport with my students is important in establishing a comfort level that is conducive to learning. I've found that students(especially children) are more engaged, ask more questions, and have more fun in the lesson if the teacher makes an effort to connect with his or her student. When receiving a student I first like to get to know the student by friending them. Asking question as to what their likes are and just getting to know them. For the beginner we start of with a Method book that fits their age and personaity and go from there. In addition to private studio teaching, both in-person and remote for 6 years, my teaching experience comes from being as an Adjunct Faculty in violin and viola for non-music majors at New York University, the orchestral viola coach at Mannes Prep Precollege Division, director of Chamber Music and violin/viola faculty at Thurnauer School of Music. My students at younger ages have passed auditions of prestigious music pre-college programs as well as school-region youth orchestra programs; college-age students have won scholarships at their colleges for music minors and double-majors.
