I am an active member of Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC). My students take the Certificate of Merit (CM) test annually in performance, theory, sight-reading and ear training. Taking the CM test is optional but highly recommended. I also make sure my students have plenty of chances at performing on stage at recitals by organizing my own recitals or joining forces with other MTAC teachers. Having a recital to practice for is a great motivation for students to practice daily and gives the parents the chance to see their children's accomplishments. Read More

My methods as a teacher begin primarily with emphasis on fundamentals, i.e Bow hand position, violin position. I emphasize the need to practice on a consistent basis. As in any walk of life, there will be little to no improvement unless you do so. I also believe in treating each student differently, however, as there are some who simply want to have fun and learn something new. Firstly, I think building a good rapport with my students is important in establishing a comfort level that is conducive to learning. I've found that students(especially children) are more engaged, ask more questions, and have more fun in the lesson if the teacher makes an effort to connect with his or her student. For beginning string student's, I use Essential Elements for Strings and Schroeder method books. Once the student has grasped the basic fundamentals and note reading, I begin to introduce solo repertoire from the Suzuki String method. Along with technical studies and solo repertoire, the student will learn scales ranging from one to four octaves. For beginning piano student's, I use the Bastein Piano series. I have been playing the violin since I was 3, my father was my first violin teacher.  Music is a big part of my life and I do enjoy performing and teaching very much.  I love sharing my music knowledge with others, seeing my students making progress and achieving their goals is priceless and makes my life more worth living.  I have performed as violin soloist, chamber musician and concertmaster of orchestras, those are valuable experiences I had in life that I'd love to pass on to others.  I have also had student recitals every year in the past ten years, my students and I have toured and performed in China.
