For young students, I use a Suzuki Method hybrid, meaning I incorporate additional note-reading and music theory elements while using the Suzuki Violin books and Suzuki's core values of imitation and ear training. I also supplement with many pieces outside of the Suzuki Method, including folk, blues, fiddle, and other styles. As students progress I include traditional etudes, technique studies and scales. I specialize in teaching classical Suzuki method, however, my teaching skills are broad. Starting from beginner level students and teaching them technicalities and specifics of classical violin to teaching students of any age creative writing and spontaneous playing. I also specialize in creative pop song writing and alternative recording. This includes training students who see themselves pursuing playing violin for bands and in more diverse musical cultures. With consistent practice and lessons I’ve had success with having some of my youngest students start with Mozarts twinkle little star and in 2-3 years play at a very high level with skill, artistry and reading abilities in Suzuki books 4/5 Vivaldi Concertos. Students start off with a box violin to focus on posture and ear training right away.
