I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 1992, I graduated from Baruch (CUNY) with a degree in Applied Music. I have performed in Nashville and in New York City which has been one of my greater experiences as a musician, and I have had the opportunity to play at Jazz and Country Western clubs. Since graduating with my Masters in Cello Performance in 2005 from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, I have been consistently teaching. Most of my teaching for the past 13 years has been going to students' homes. I also encourage the students to participate in yearly recitals and local community engagements throughout the year. The combination of the 2 allows there to be an understanding of the correct technique and an immediate opportunity for application. I try to customize my teaching style based on what I observe each student needs. Some are visual learnings, in which case I do lots of demonstrating on my own violin. Other students respond very well to imagery, and listening to their own imagination/instincts. Some students need more systemic discipline, others require more freedom and nurturing. After my own experience with it as well as teaching it, Suzuki has great techniques and music for getting students experience in sight-reading, ear training, and memorization. With the youngest students I start with the fundamentals such as naming the different parts of the instrument and some basic rules with notes. Acronyms and games are always the best way to memorize the different rules. I write out detailed lessons plans for each individual student, constructed specifically for their learning process.
