For young students, I use a Suzuki Method hybrid, meaning I incorporate additional note-reading and music theory elements while using the Suzuki Violin books and Suzuki's core values of imitation and ear training. I also supplement with many pieces outside of the Suzuki Method, including folk, blues, fiddle, and other styles. As students progress I include traditional etudes, technique studies and scales. My ultimate goal is to give my students all the tools they need to play and learn pieces on their own, and to that end I ensure they fully comprehend and master each step of learning before introducing new concepts. My goal for lessons is not just progress. I would like to let students know how to enjoy music and the way music works. I have teaching experience in Korea and the U.S with kids age between 6 to 15. Young musicians have hard time to focus in a long period of time and practicing their own. I also use innovative methods to teach all instruments. I encourage my students to select their own repertoire. It is also encourage to perform at least 3 times a year in recitals. As a teacher I am patient and considerate. My first priority with beginner students is developing correct posture and relaxed position of hands. This is of most importance since it is difficult to change posture later on and bad posture can affect not only the quality of musical performance, but the health of the student as well. I usually taught Suzuki for violin, viola and classical guitar (tend to prefer Scott Tennant Pumping Nylon book for classical guitar though).
