For instance, violin is a difficult instrument to play and it can take months of practice to play a simple tune. However, it can be fun and enjoyable as long as it is understood that these simple accomplishments in playing the violin are in fact rather big ones. I try my best to keep lessons fun, especially with the younger students. For example, Sometimes we play music games, sometimes we walk/dance to learn about rhythm, sometimes we sing. I also have small group practices each month to combine students at about the same level, they play togher, they perform for each other, make constructive suggestions and encourage each other. My cello students that are still in the beginning stages I like to have using the Suzuki books to help work towards more advanced music and skills. My voice students are all very different so I shape our lesson methods based on what style of singing theyre interested in, but we always begin working on proper breathing and learning solfege.
