While studying at the Conductor’s Institute in 1993, I had master classes with Donald Portnoy, Samuel Jones, Larry Newland, and Paul Vermal. I also studied with David Effron and Yuri Bekker at the Miami Music festival I am an active cellist and composer and has had works performed by the Colorado Symphony and in Romania. MY composition, “Theme and Variations for Orchestra” was performed by the South Florida Youth Orchestra in January of 2003, and “In Memoriam” was given its world primer at the University of Miami in 2007. i like to do a lot of exercises at the beginning of the class at least 15 minutes the we start whit the songs in the singing classes , for the instruments i like to do some exercises an the work on the technical books the with songs that the student like to play and also some recommend, i love to given rewards like compliments or another song that they love to practice that give motivation for the student. i like to give them homework or something to study at home , because more practice faster learning. With young beginner string students, I typically will start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. After a few weeks of that, the student will have grasped the fundamentals. and then I will introduce the Suzuki method, supplementing with the O'Connor Method. For piano I generally will start with the Suzuki method and supplement with any songs the student is interested in learning. For Adults I try to find out what style of music the student is interested in, and how much experience they have and structure my lessons accordingly to keep the student engaged and ensure they are having fun!
