I started playing violin at the age of 4, and started teaching at 17. In 2003, I started playing viola, and in 2005, I started learning cello. In 2010, I graduated from Stetson University with a Bachelor of Music degree with electives in Psychology. With children, I typically start with Essential Elements for Strings by Michael Allen, Robert Gillespie and Pamela Tellejohn Hayes. I complement that with the Suzuki method and other fun easy songs I have picked through the years of experience . Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce etudes, scales, vibrato and eventually shifting; and of course solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I usually start all of my piano students from the Alfred series. Those that are more advanced will complete the curriculum quicker.. Alfred seems to offer a more detailed instruction technique. It offers step by step instructions. The student can almost teach himself. For guitar I use the Everyday guitar method. This method introduces each string at a time. I started as a summer chamber councilor and then began teaching students as a private instructor. I use mainly the Suzuki method, and other non-traditional methods. I teach a predominantly Suzuki as I learned with the Suzuki method and I am trained as a Suzuki instructor. I don't completely immerse my students with the Suzuki method and while learning how to play by ear, I teach students how to read music so that they are able to compose their own music. Read More

For the beginning string player I like to start with a Hal Leonard method book to communicate and help string players master the basics. Once the student has progressed I will begin some solo repertoire from varying genres. I find it is always helpful to allow students to play music that they enjoy - experiencing a range of both popular and classical pieces to broaden their horizons. I encourage my students to do a lot of listening as a part of their practice. Read More
