My teaching method books involve All for Strings and Suzuki books. Suzuki books are categorized from level 1-10, level 8-10 is the equivalent of college level repertoire. I currently have students on level 1-8. In addition, I also look for individual method books and outside repertoire of Suzuki once the student is ready to move at a faster pace or in need of additional help. Creating a non-judgemental atmosphere, where students are free to experiment, make mistakes, and try again, is crucial for learning an instrument such as the violin. With this instrument, repeptition is key to learning. I also strive to set very clear, manageble goals, so students feel a sense of accomplishment at each stage. This sense of accomplishment is motivating to the student as well as the teacher! I use different book series, depending on the age and level of the student. For young students, I start with the little Mozarts book series, lesson books, and workbooks. For older students, I will either use Bastien or Alfreds lesson and workbooks. This is mixed with a classical and folk book. We also work on theory, and making sure we know our intervals.
