For 3-5 year olds on piano I use Wunderkeys and supplement with Bastien Music Tree and music I have written when note reading is introduced. Usually I continue into Faber and Faber but Wunderkeys is adding more method books for beginners 5+ and I may start using that once it is available for purchase. I have been brought up with the Suzuki method of learning and recently I completed my Suzuki Teacher-Training in books 1-8. I find this method to instill the very best habits in students of all ages. The learning process for a young child is best when a parent is learning with the student. If you can play scales well, then you're off to a good start! You may very well be able to learn new music faster and play the pieces better! The students were sometimes understand the music about the notes, parts of the methods and working on the rhythm.
