I began studying the recorder in Israel at the age of five. Keenly interested in music, I embarked on my lifelong love of the violin at age seven when I began violin studies with Leon Asa. After emigrating to the United States in 1958, I continued my early violin studies with the late Emily Cleve Gregerson of Omaha, Nebraska. In 1967, while an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, I was accepted as an advanced violin student by Elliot Golub, who was at the time a member of the Contemporary Chamber Players at the University of Chicago under Ralph Shapey, and a founder of the acclaimed Music of the Baroque series in Chicago. We will listen to various styles of music in order to see the natural inclination and joy that the student possesses. From there, we will take our time developing good habits while learning music that the student finds fun and satisfying. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
