Hi there! I'm a dedicated and passionate violinist, teacher and all-around music enjoyer living in the Rochester area. I currently hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from SUNY Fredonia and have enjoyed a 10-year career so far teaching in classrooms and in the studio. Although my main job is now editing, I am happiest when playing in ensembles. I typically use the Suzuki method violin books, but I can also work with Strictly Strings and Essential Elements. Depending on the natural strengths of the student, we may start with music fundamentals or jump right into violin setup and technique. I typically pair the books with exercises of my own invention meant to isolate the technique at hand for that lesson. For beginning students, I like to build a foundation of training the ear, learning the language of music, and becoming connected with their instruments. I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or the Suzuki books. For intermediate students, I try and develop good building blocks for technique and facilities for getting around the violin. This is also a good stage to start introducing more advanced repertoire. My method is very flexible and student specific. Everyone learns slightly differently and has their own unique strengths. In general, I have a "sound before sight" method. Students learn music thoroughly, aurally and theoretically before trying to read it off the page. Imagine trying to learn a language by being handed a book.
