Hi! My name is Martina and I am a classically trained violist. In May of 2013 I received a Master of Music from Roosevelt University, where I studied with Lawrence Neuman of the Chicago Symphony. The most effective teachers that I have had were teachers who recognized these important factors in the student-teacher relationship- that the best education experiences occur when both the student and the teacher embark on a positively-reinforced exploration together as opposed to the teacher solely dictating negatively to the student. I am a creative and enthusiastic violinist based in the Northwest Indiana region. I graduated with a degree in music with an emphasis in performance in 2018 from Butler University. During my undergraduate career, I was principal 2nd violinist with the Butler Symphony and performed two solo recitals. Additionally, I performed with the Butler Ballet and Opera Orchestras, as well as with local symphonies (Hendricks Symphony and Danville Symphony). I look to guide my students on two things; how to practice, and how to perform and be expressive. Whether you are preparing for a solo recital, school or community concert, or personal enjoyment we will still be focusing on developing a tension-free technique as well as taste and style. I generally follow the Suzuki series, however, I will also be assigning additional etudes, scale studies, and repertoire according to the playing level of my student. Read More

For my beginner students who are children, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and sometimes Lee W. Kikuchi's Musicianship for Strings. Scales and arpeggios follow shortly after. As the student progresses, I follow up with Harvey S. Whistler's Introducing the Positions (this book can also work with adults). Etude books such as Wohlfahrt and Kreutzer come into play when the student is ready. As far as repertiore, I use the first few Suzuki books and Barber's "Soloists for Young Violinists" for my younger students (the latter can also work with adults). Read More
