I have had lots of experiences working with young musicians. I assisted my former violin teacher who teaches at Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou supervising some of his students’ practice. I helped my students to prepare for their exams, auditions, performances and competitions and a lot of them achieved satisfying outcomes. Unless requested otherwise, I primarily work with the Suzuki Method. For those unfamiliar, this is a methodology formulated on the belief that all children are capable of learning the violin at any age and skill level. This method works with play learning, ear training, and instilling a musicality from a young age. I augment these Suzuki books with other exercises, depending on the skill level of the student. This includes Galamian scales and other etudes for them to build strong foundations. Read More

Not all students learn the same way, and it is my job as a teacher to be flexible and apply different teaching methods and styles based on the needs of an individual student. This process takes time, and I prefer to work with new students consistently and regularly during the first few months to establish a relationship, discover their individual passion for music and find their unique learning style. I hope to do this by instilling my own love and passion for music. i understand the challenges and rewards that come in learning music, and I love to share my own experiences with students to better connect and engage with students. If not coming for theory tutoring then I begin with Vidal keyboard harmony practice and then progress with 16th and 18th century counterpoint Composition lessons are based on scores or recordings the composition student brings in that they have written or are interested in. We discuss the composition and the students goals in writing the music and I recommend scores to look at as well as articles, book, and journals that are relevant to the students particular interests.
