Hi there! I'm a Sacramento based violinist, violist, and bass player. I've been an instructor since 2020 and have had the privilege to work with some great students who I've gotten to explore their creativity with. I studied music at Sacramento State's School of Music at the age of 16 and began studying viola under Anna Kruger as well as chamber music under Anna Presler and Andy Luchansky. I use the Suzuki method as well as the Doflein method books, and will choose other specific methods depending on what else the student would like to learn and what will help develop style,technique, and musicality. We will also have fun with seasonal and holiday music. Playing the violin is not about burying your head in a piece of music and learning just for memorization. For my beginning students, I typically start with either Essential Elements 2000 for strings or Sound Innovations. Both books give younger students a grasp on the fundamentals of technique. As they grow I then introduce solo repertoire by using the Suzuki Books but also like to add a fiddle book. Sometimes students gradually go either to fiddle or to classical. I try and encourage what they are more comfortable with. For adults, I try to find out what genre of music they enjoy and try to gauge their ability level with a couple playing evaluations.
