I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school. I like to use piano methods that employ the multi-key and intervallic approach to teaching piano. Alfred's Piano Method nicely blends these two methods. To keep book costs down, the Alfred's All-in-One Piano Method (children's or adult's) is a good choice for beginning students. Alfred's method is also used by many universities and community colleges, so what you learn will nicely carry over to that environment. Many self taught drummers learn bad habits which become very difficult to break as they get older. We will break these habits if needed. For the beginner, we will spend the first two or three lessons working on proper grip and motion. Once that is mastered, we will use the Maroni book and use the first page of Stick Control.
