I've always found that my students who seem to have the most fun are the ones who progress the fastest, so my primary method is to approach lessons with material that students are interested in. I try to keep things fun and interesting by doing things such as incorporating a student's favorite music into a lesson. It's important for a student to practice regularly with discipline and focus. However based on my experience, nothing propels a student forward faster than the happiness and satisfaction gained from 'nailing' a new lick or figuring out a cool new trick. Read More

If students are beginners, I generally use the Alfred Lesson books which are made for children and adults. These include theory books which I love to teach! Knowing the music theory behind what you're playing is so important and helps the music make much more sense. As a student progresses, I like to have them choose a piece out of selected repertoire so that they may have a say in what they're learning, and so that they will enjoy it all the more. Read More

I create my lesson plans to each individual student, depending on their age and experience. I believe the Circle of Fifths is one of the most important pieces of music theory and is fundemental in the learning process. I also want to get them to understand how to read music, but also to learn how to listen to music so they can develop their ear. I also try to get my students to understand progressions and how they can write their own songs. Read More

I like to use piano methods that employ the multi-key and intervallic approach to teaching piano. Alfred's Piano Method nicely blends these two methods. To keep book costs down, the Alfred's All-in-One Piano Method (children's or adult's) is a good choice for beginning students. Alfred's method is also used by many universities and community colleges, so what you learn will nicely carry over to that environment. More advanced students can bring the method and materials they have been working with and we'll go from there. Read More

I have performed at the Lancaster Roots & Blues Festival and the Philadelphia Folk Festivals, and my true passion is to play and share my love for music with as many people as I can. I truly believe that we all have music within. Everyone has different leanings and passions, and I see my greatest strength as helping students to discover their own personal connection to music. Whether you are looking to improve your classical technique, learn fiddle tunes, learn chords on the guitar, find your voice as a songwriter, or explore singing and vocal techniques, I hope I can be a supportive part of your journey!
