I'm an ardent and compassionate instructor who enjoys sharing the gift of music with children and adults. Music enriches the communities in which we live and expands our capacity to connect with humanity. I studied privately with Philip J. Teibel of the Buffalo Philharmonic from childhood through High School. I toured the Southeast US with the Oberlin College Choir and Orchestra in college. For 2 to 4 year old students, I use Mozart mouse series. For 4 to 6 years old students, I usually use Faber series and older students, I like to use Basien series. For violin, I start with Suzuki method and as they progress I add wolfhart, scale and solos for young violinists by barber. For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Suzuki, and easy scales. Once the student has progressed and appears to grasp the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce etudes and solo pieces. I also teach students elementary music theory related to the pieces they are learning. For advanced students, I focus more on their technique and performance. Scales and etudes are essential as well as having experience playing a diverse repertoire. Read More

I do not teach with one method but what the student needs or requests. It is not what I want but what the student wants. I use both the Suzuki method and the traditional method and sometimes I combine them into my own method to give the student what he/she needs. I method is just a way to achieve an end result. I started out at the age of nine playing the trumpet, and continued this for two years before switching to piano. Ultimately, I found my love in playing the guitar, and took lessons for two years. As time went on, I advanced as a guitarist and actually expanded into new musical instruments. I began playing in local rock and r&b bands at the age of 15. These were some of my most influential experiences, as they expanded my musical tastes into jazz fusion, swing, standards and Latin Jazz. After graduating high school, I attended community college and then went to New York to study jazz theory, where I played a few sets with Sweetback in 2000 that led up to being asked to play with the band.
