I began studying classical singing and performing in gospel choirs, vocal ensembles and chorales at a young age. After earning my Masters Degree in Education, I enjoyed 10 years of teaching 7th to 12th grade students in public schools. I have performed throughout the country as a classical, jazz and contemporary vocalist before opening my own recording studio in 2014. From there on to the Hartt School and ever since, with a private studio in my home for 20 years and instructing and designing string programs in the Greater Hartford Area including the Hatford Public School System and Hartford Conservatory also within the East Hartford and Glastonbury school systems. I will vary my methods based on the individual student. For students between 3 and 7, I will use the Suzuki method, which in my experience is best for students of that age. For beginners after that, I will use method books and repertoire that not only addresses the students technical and musical development at that point in time, but is also fun and enjoyable to play. I encourage students to play in their school or community orchestra and will assist and encourage students to play in chamber ensembles. Read More

For beginning piano students who are children, I usually start with John Thompson's "Teaching Little Fingers To Play."  Once the student has progressed and becomes more familiar with reading the notes in both clefs, I will begin to introduce solo pieces of music that the child picks out of the choices I present to them.  I do this to help encourage and reward the child with their success.  For adult piano students, I find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly. My teaching experience dates back to my high school years. I started teaching at the age of 14. Being a piano instructor was one of the best jobs I ever took on. I am very passionate about music. It calms the soul, relieves stress, and has been proven to improve brain function. I taught all the way through high school, then took a break in college.
