I am an experienced and patient teacher, passionate about the versatile beauty of music and all of the ways it benefits music learners. I have been a music maker for just over 20 years, with piano as my first instrument. I began playing the viola in middle school and quickly progressed into advanced orchestras both at school and throughout the city. Though I initially intended to major in music education, once at the University of Minnesota I found myself incredibly drawn to opera. Read More

I love what I do and it makes me so happy to be able to share my passion with others. Since starting as a violin teacher, I’ve been privileged to see so many students discover their natural skills and abilities and reach results they never dreamed were possible. I tailor each lesson individually based on a student's interest and skill. The most important thing I can do in a lesson is provide the skills that build confidence. Read More

I believe in positive affirmation and goal setting. My goal with all students is that they enjoy learning, become self-motivated to practice, and consider their musical abilities as a gift which they can choose to share with others whenever they feel comfortable to do so. I have experience using a variety of method books and can easily recommend appropriate materials. I also encourage students to share with me and allow me to help them learn their favorite music, as well, even if that involves writing it out with or for them. Read More

Everyone is different therefore not everyone is going to be taught the same way or follow the same pace. Read More

My main focus with string instruments is sound development - how to use the bow properly and get a beautiful sound from the instrument first and foremost. I typically use Sound Innovations for Strings for beginning students, and start supplementing with different repertoire as we get further into lessons. For beginning students, we start with a proper hold, left hand set up, and only after that do we get to using the bow so we can focus on getting the best sound possible out of the instrument.
