I received my BA in violin performance from the University of Colorado at Denver and also attended UNC where I received a viola scholarship. I play both the violin and viola, having the viola as my primary instrument.
Overview:
I received my BA in violin performance from the University of Colorado at Denver and also attended UNC where I received a viola scholarship. I play both the violin and viola, having the violin as my primary instrument. I have extensive experience in classical (art music), folk, opera, spiritual and new age styles. I also compose and enjoy sharing new styles and methods of technique. Competency can be achieved and an enrichment of artistic experience through my support and energetic lessons! I focus on your goals and share my expertise!
EXPERIENCE
I have taught individual private lessons for the last seven years and I have continued to perform and compose. I want all of my students to play to the best of their ability and in accordance with their playing style while truly enjoy playing! I use traditional methods in a way that allows for individual pacing. I teach traditional methods, focusing both on strong technical ability and lively, soulfully inspired playing. I teach core skills and then continue to foster growth in all aspects of playing.
METHODS USED
I begin lessons using tradititonal method books, from Belwin String Builder to Maia Bang, to Strictly Strings. We focus on establishing foundations and building a repertoire which the student truly enjoys. I have also compiled many unique studies that truly build essential abilities and allow for an interesting and unique approach. Scales, etudes, essential repertoire are covered and anything that each student wishes to learn and play for individual fulfillment, is covered. I also teach exercises for strength and precision.
LESSON STYLE
It's my goal to teach in a way that relates to the individual student and their goals. I spend time focusing on at what stage each student is at, in the accomplishment of their goals. Encouragement and patient accomplishment are important aspects of my lessons. I teach the importance of being patient with one's self and keeping focus on goals at hand. I believe we can teach and learn better in a very caring, supportive environment and that each student has the ability to achieve their individual goals!
