For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Suzuki, and easy scales. Once the student has progressed and appears to grasp the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce etudes and solo pieces. However, if a student is using a different book with their school music teacher, I always try to incorporate that book in my student's private lessons. In addition, I ask students what they are interested in playing, to give the student a sense of ownership and signifigance in their progress. I try to cater to the each student's particular needs. For beginning students that are children I typically start with the Essential Elements Strings Book 1 in combination with Suzuki first book. As every student progresses at a different pace, I adjust my teaching curriculum accordingly. I started leading choirs as a teenager and have grown from there. I've taught theory and composition internationally (See a final project video on my profile), and taught violin and viola here in the States. I like to emphasize the importance of theory and composition throughout all lessons, as well as learning by play - music is an art of expression first and foremost.
