I love to teach music and how to play an instrument to any student at any stage in their educational development. I hold two degrees in Instrumental Music Education from both Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. I have been an active performer throughout my career, participating in several ensembles in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Florida in a wide variety of music genres including classical, jazz, bluegrass, American folk, and latin. For beginner students of violin I always start with the suzuki method and alternate it with the "The new directions" method, while after 3 or 4 weeks I start with some repertoire according to how the student evolves. In the case of piano I start with John Thompson's methodology "Teaching little fingers to play", alternated with exercises of the book Junior Hanon for piano, I try to evaluate the student qualitatively before quantitatively at least once a month. I motivate my students by being interactive. With children who are new to music, I use my personal method, which is characterized by providing knowledge while playing interactive games, which helps the children grasp music-related issues. With the older students, I try to inspire them by playing duets, accompanying them, and placing emphasis on a variety of repertoire. Some of them might even perform on the stage in the small recitals prepared by myself every year. Read More

With young beginner string students, I typically will start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. After a few weeks of that, the student will have grasped the fundamentals. and then I will introduce the Suzuki method, supplementing with the O'Connor Method. For piano I generally will start with the Suzuki method and supplement with any songs the student is interested in learning. For Adults I try to find out what style of music the student is interested in, and how much experience they have and structure my lessons accordingly to keep the student engaged and ensure they are having fun! I use different methods according to the age, my main interest is to help the student love the music and the rest is just up to time and work. I work on having a natural and flexible posture that allows for easy playing. The violin/viola is hard enough already! So I try to make it as simple and strait forward as possible. We work also on music theory basics and ear training. Read More

I believe reading music from early age is very very important. Kind like a wonderful habit, almost like some people always like to read a book. Treating for a sensitive ear also a very important for a future musician or a good listener, Keep the basics exercise is very good for the technique to grow. We should always start with scales, exercise, we have to find beautiful music, famous melodies and traditional violin repertoire, we should try to introduce all kinds styles and all times music to our students Read More

I have been teaching music for the past 25 years. First in the Public Schools in Tennessee and Florida and at the college level. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
