I begin lessons using tradititonal method books, from Belwin String Builder to Maia Bang, to Strictly Strings. We focus on establishing foundations and building a repertoire which the student truly enjoys. I have also compiled many unique studies that truly build essential abilities and allow for an interesting and unique approach. I ask all of my students to be prepared for their lessons with a notebook and pencil for lesson notes and assignments. I ask them to bring any materials they have and will often recommend books and supplemental material I have had success with. I use goal-setting as a satisfying and organized way to break down musical lessons, which means lessons time is well spent and students have a good understanding of how and what to practice. Students remain engaged and satisfied with this approach, which provides proof of the progress that is taking place in lessons and in private practice time.
