My teaching experience goes back to my high school days, where we would volunteer to help tutor the local middle school orchestra members on music they were working on for performances. Many of my classmates would also come to me for help with practicing or if they had a music theory question. This continued in college, and before I knew I was working as a violin and piano teacher at a local music store. Read More

I believe lessons should be fun. Yes, learning music can and should be challenging. But it also needs to be fun. I am a very performance-oriented teacher. So, once I get to know a student, we begin preparing to perform. If we are having fun while we work, we don't even realize we are working. Giving students really solid practice skills they can do on their own keeps them engaged. Read More

I am a performer, & teacher. My goals are to give my students the education I received at the foot of my teachers. I see it as a mission to invite people of many backgrounds to learn and enjoy bowed stringed instruments. I attended Valdosta State University where i found myself to be the only bass student for 2 years. It was this that gave me the" grit" needed to survive in the constantly evolving music industry. I enjoy teaching all ages, and the most rewarding thing about it is when my students show improvement, take initiative to enter into the larger community (through a recital, stage performance, competition, or other activity), and achieve their goals! To inspire this I teach students at his or her own pace. With each lesson, we identify what needs work, work together on the rough spots, and determine what to practice- and how- so as that these things are no longer difficult. Read More

I love teaching the violin!!, my emphasys is in the real true and with love every thing. There are many ways to teach an instrument, one of them is from the perspective of visual memory, or I know, there are teachers who demonstrate first and then the student tries to imitate what he hears and sees There are also others who speak and ask for what they want without demonstrating anything, because obviously they are no longer at the level playing or because they have a condition in their hands or fingers, and they get things by speaking, making themselves understood by the word. For beginner strings I use several method books (elementary and 6th students can come with prescribed method books from their public school teacher) such as Essential Elements, Orchestra Expressions, String Essentials. If parents would like to use solo books, I use Suzuki Method Books (not necessarily the method of only learning by ear) in conjunction with note reading workbooks. As they age I use other method books (violin, viola, cello. double bass) such as Wohlfahrt, Mazas, Kreutzer, Flesch, Schradieck, Dont, Bach Sonatas and Partitas, Rick Mooney's shifting and thump position book series, Klengel, Bach Cello Suites, Popper, PIatti, Smandl Method, Fischer, and of course as they advance any standard sonatas and concerti, such as Mozart 5 in AM, Mendelssohn in em, Hadyn Concerto in CM, anything from the Baroque, classical, and romantic era. I started teaching while in High School some 12 years ago. Gradually my studio has built up and is generally in the 20-30 student range, generally where I like it. I've taught privately in people's homes, in my own studio, for local music studios, and online. In these many years I've found teaching to be as much if not more enjoyable than performing. Instead of showing others my love of music I get to instill it in my students. Read More
