I started teaching lessons in college. I began teaching lessons 6 years ago, and have always taught in-home lessons. I believe that teaching in the home will help my students be more comfortable practicing at home. I prefer the one on one setting that teaching lessons gives you over the large ensemble setting. I believe it gives more opportunity to grow as a player. I strive to have a positive and friendly relationship with students. Respect of eachother is also important. I teach each student uniquely and do not stick to a "cookie cutter" approach. Everyone has unique physiology and strengths and weaknesses, so each person should be taught according to their specific characteristics. I started teaching guitar lessons in 1999 (20 years this year!) Since those days I've gotten two degrees and taught at colleges, and private institutions, as well as high school and middle schools. I've found that combining textbook music instruction along with learning to play some of the music the student is listening to keeps them growing and engaged.
