I first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School where I directed trumpet master classes for high school students.I later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement composition.While earning my Master of Music at the University of the Arts, I served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams.Also at UArts, I was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which I conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. With over 20 years of experience, I have had the opportunity to learn from many different teachers and perform in many great locations. I have been a student of local Philadelphia musicians like Eric Apelt, Al Rochlin and Bill Whitaker. In my college career I was fortunate to have instructors like Dr. Ted DiSanti and former ITG President Dr. Kevin Eisensmith. As a performer I have been a member of many different bands such as Concert Bands, Jazz Bands, Trumpet Ensembles, Quintet/Quartets, Pit Orchestra, Wedding Bands and have performed solo. Read More

After graduating college, I was the resident trumpet at the Barter Theater in Abingdon, Virginia, before completing three contracts as a show band musician on board Celebrity Cruise ships. I have toured Europe with my university's top jazz ensemble, as well as toured the United States with two different professional drum corps, Carolina Crown and Jersey Surf. I have taught at summer camps and after school programs, and I just love to share my love of music with others. Read More

My teaching experience began in college, when I gave private lessons to students either first starting out on low brass instruments, or high school students that were attempting to prepare for auditions within their programs or for college. I'm a big believer in setting small but achievable goals. I also believe that achieving technical mastery of an instrument is a simple process of building habits. Some students may want to be pushed hard and challenged at every turn. Other students may not respond so well to such an approach so a different pace and style is required. It all depends on the student but in general I think a friendly smile and warm demeanor create a comfortable environment for the student to ask questions and perform their best each time I see them.
