I have performed and studied in multiple cities and institutions in Florida and Boston, and am currently enrolled in multiple performing ensembles at my university in classical and jazz music. I began my musical journey at 5 years of age with the piano, and since then I have picked up a few brass instruments and classical/jazz singing. It with great desire that I seek to share my knowledge with others as I continue to grow and learn new things about myself and my field. Read More

Hello! I am a highly energetic and passionate music educator from the central Florida area. Over the past 10 years, I have worked with a wide range of instrumental students in and out of the classroom. My primary focus is percussion (contemporary and orchestral), but I am proficient on several other instruments as well. My main goal as an educator is to help students understand the fundamentals of music at a higher level and fine tune their skills on their chosen instrument. Read More

In my opinion, my goal for the student is to be motivated, and stay motivated to try to also work at their instrument outside their lessons on their own. I would not want to cram information down their throats, but I also would not want to spend too much time on tasks that would get the student or myself carried away. The process of slowing things down and working them in chunks is, in my opinion, very efficient because the retention sets in really well and it also helps the student get in the habit of how to practice properly, and this goes for any level of student. I also heavily believe in the integration of different subjects of learning in order to enhance the application of knowledge. For instance, learning about counterpoint is the perfect opportunity to include music history to track trends and usage of counterpoint and encourage practical application in the form of composition (also creating the opportunity to learn a little about orchestration). In that example alone, there are four areas of music education wrapped up in one topic. Read More

For beginning students who are just picking up the horn, we focus on the very basics on how to make noises on it. Once they understand how it make sounds, we slow work on refining and controlling so we can actually learn to play! Older and more experienced students will learn how to make Music, not just playing the notes on the page. A lot of time goes into understanding musicality, so we will often listen to recordings, play together to find different way to express musical ideas, and take time to really understand and comprehend different music genres. I graduated from Marshall University in 2006 with a degree in Music Education. A former professional music educator, my desire for freelancing and travel led me on a varied path all over the U.S. and Europe. Finally having settled in St. Pete, I hope to return to an endeavor I love so much - teaching musicians! I've played on cruises, in orchestras and operas, for musicals, as a soloist, and as many jazz, community, marching, symphonic, brass, etc. ensembles as you can imagine! Read More

I always enjoy seeing the light bulb moment my students get when they get something right, and learn something new. My teaching method is a simple stacking method we start with a lesson, I try to find where the student may struggle most and spend time with that. Then we move forward, but revisit the lesson prior for continuity. Lip slurs, scales and fundamentals for the brass players and rudiments, speed and handing techniques for all percussionists the practice and teaching regiment is simple yet effective. Read More
