I've been teaching since 2018. My teaching experience ranges from beginner to collegiate and I've taught as young as 8 and as old as 40. My initial goal is to create a connection with both the student and the family (family support it the best way to improve!). My teaching philosophy focuses on using personal experiences to relate to musical ideas (ex, breathe like you're jumping into a pool). I have been teaching private lessons at Northside Christian School for almost 2 full years at this point, and have been helping out during marching band season every year since 2017. During the first part of 2021, I have also substituted for jazz instructor during the school year of Tarpon Springs High School, and while there I have taught more students on jazz improvisation as well as fundamentals on the trombone. At the very beginning level I would start with fundamentals from whatever book I feel would be best for the student depending on their age and knowledge. Beforehand I definitely will need to asses their knowledge so I can do so accordingly. I however will now focus on solely fundamentals and will try to include in songs that the student would like to learn as long as it is in the bounds of reality, the lessons I provide are only part of the equation and the real work is what is put in after the lesson.
