I have spent the past three years living in Miami where I completed my Masters Degree in music education. During this time I was an active trumpet player in south Florida playing with orchestras, brass bands, jazz groups, and quite regularly latin bands due to the popularity of salsa/latin styles in that region. My Bachelors degree was completed in 2006 at the Univeristy of Delware. I first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School where I directed trumpet master classes for high school students.I later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement composition.While earning my Master of Music at the University of the Arts, I served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams.Also at UArts, I was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which I conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. After graduating college, I was the resident trumpet at the Barter Theater in Abingdon, Virginia, before completing three contracts as a show band musician on board Celebrity Cruise ships. I have toured Europe with my university's top jazz ensemble, as well as toured the United States with two different professional drum corps, Carolina Crown and Jersey Surf. We will extensively on flexibility and scales through out all stages of development as well as intonation on the instrument. My teaching style is to identify what area a student needs help in and to remediate the problem by creating supplemental materials. Showing students what to practice and how to practice are key elements. My methods are geared to improve tone production, articulation, phrasing and musicality. I strongly recommend that students select classical music to practice. I heavily emphasize the playing of scales and arpeggios. The composers that are the best to study include Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms. Read More
