I am a strong believer in being passionate about things and sharing them with other people, which is why I am teaching music. I studied music education on the saxophone at Stephen F Austin State University and have been the lead of and taught within many different ensembles. I attended the NASA(National American Saxophone Alliance) conference in 2014 in Chicago, IL at Illinois State University School Of Music. I've seen and met some of the best saxophonists alive, who my professor learned from. Read More

When I'm working with beginning students, my defaul method book is Essential Elements. However, if students have another book for a school band class, I am more then happy to work with them to preserve some line of consistency in the students education. As they progress, I look to find more advanced etude and solo books, focusing on music that is of interest to the student. Practicing music should be fun, and I try to make it fun, while maintaining an emphasis on fundamentals and musicianship. Read More

I'm a very passionate and motivated educator who loves sharing that passion and motivation with my students. I'm currently attending Metropolitan State University of Denver getting my bachelor's in trumpet performance. I've been playing the trumpet since I was 11, but really found that it was my calling in my junior year of high school where I decided to pursue a degree in something that I love! Since then, I have won the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award in 2018, played with the Parker Symphony as the assistant principal trumpet, have played with the Colorado Brass, the Rocky Mountain Jazz Orchestra, and the Mariachi Los Caracaminos de MSU, as well as many other chamber ensembles both professionally and at my university. My musical career has not been glamorous. I have put in a lot of dull studio time and years of practice and private lessons. I have taught hundreds of students over the years and I find that most new musicians just want to play for the fun of playing! That's my goal. Not everyone will be a rock star. The financial rewards are often limited, but the joy of music is priceless. Read More

I challenge every student to exceed their own expectations. I believe everyone has more to learn and achieve, including me. Many students have taught me something, lets grow together. I use many books to start students and usually spend most of the lesson in the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet (Cornet). I like students to study classic trumpet solo's literature. Trumpet students will learn to slurring, double and triple tonging technics, as well as transposing and how to write music. Read More

I started teaching trumpet lessons as a senior in high school, and continued on through college and into my professional playing career. I have taught students interested in the genres of jazz, classical, and modern music, and value all 3 genres equally. I have found teaching students all 3 styles simultaneously is beneficial as all these styles present different challenges and techniques which ultimately provide students with a wide variety of opportunities whether they are beginning, intermediate, or advanced players. With most beggining students I use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements 2000. For intermediate students I find the Rubank methods move at a faster pace and put a larger emphases on scales. For beginning students, when students are ready I will introduce an easy solo book. In most cases I use Belwin Master Solos or an Essential Elements supplement depending on the interests of the student. For students interested in learning jazz or other forms of improvisation, I would use Hal Leonard's "How to Play from a Real Book" in combination with the Hal Leonard or Aebersold play-along series.
