I do this because I've seen it help students learn what they want to and need to learn faster as well as help students learn to like, love, or at least appreciate new things. For trumpet students, I rely heavily on the Arban method for the essentials and then add other materials depending on the student's goals. In 2019 I graduated from UMass Amherst with a BM in Jazz studies and a BS in environmental science.
