I find that metaphors using familiar things and processes, like the laws of nature and physics we see everyday, can help students grasp concepts that require marrying physical movements with mental flexibility. Perhaps we're discussing articulations and you're having trouble understanding stylistically how to approach and execute staccato with legato over it. I began teaching privately in 2012 during my undergraduate studies. I taught in both private and ensemble settings. I also, spent time teaching music theory in a classroom setting. I treat practicing the trumpet as if it is a part of the student's daily school curriculum so it does not upset the students daily life.
