I'm adamant about learning exercises from the "Arbans Book". This book is essential the brass bible that teaches proper fundamental techniques while developing reading skills. We will extensively on flexibility and scales through out all stages of development as well as intonation on the instrument. I am also really detailed about developing ear training to identify notes with out use of music and vice versa. A complete musician can both read and use his trained ear. Read More

Ever since High School, I have had the desire to teach music - to pass on such an enduring artform to those who want to learn. I recieved my Bachelor's degree in 2010, my Master's degree in 2012, and am currently finishing work on my Doctoroal degree. I am primarily a classically trained musician, but I also have experience in musical theater. I am an active freelancer and teacher within the central and northern New Jersey region. Read More

Having a comfortable, supportive environment for private lessons is very important to me. Nothing is worse than being scared of your private instructor! I like to create a warm environment for my students where they feel safe taking musical risks. I definitely believe in goal setting with my students. Knowing things that they would like to accomplish in one lesson, 4 lessons, 8 lessons etc. is a great way to keep students motivated. Read More

I use a variety of methods for my teaching style. I usually have a few method books that I bring to a first lesson, and after meeting the student I will decide on the best one. Once the student has progressed and shows some motivation to be slightly challenged, I'll introduce "popular" music so that the student feels a sense of accomplishment! Music is associated with movies, radio, etc., so to be able to play something recognizable is exciting for the student and the teacher. Read More

Each student approaches music differently, and I tailor my teaching to fit that approach. I will ask a student what they're aiming to accomplish, then set short and long term goals in order to acheive them. I believe a strong technical foundation leads to freer ease of artistic expression. My students recieve a wholistic approach to music on whatever instrument of their choice. Read More

Lessons are tailored to each individual. My teaching methods include a warm-up routine, scales, and etudes or songs from various method books, depending on the skill level of the student. Standard repertoire in classical and jazz studies is also covered. Sight-reading, improvisation, and ear-training are also a part of most lessons. Material that is time-sensitive for the student, such as school music (band/orchestra) as well as seating test/audition music is given top priority. Read More

For beginners I will typically start out of a book called Essential Elements. Once the students have a grasp of that book it is essential we get in to Arbans Conservatory Method for Trumpet. From there we can go in any direction the student wants. Be it Jazz or Classical. Read More
