Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I have been teaching young trumpeters since I began my undergraduate career four years ago. I have helped middle school and high school students advance in their own playing career. I love learning about how each student learns, and I've always challenged myself to plan accordingly. My students have been honored not only in their own band programs, but also in Georgia All State Band and DCI. My methodological procedures are determined solely on the level of the student and their performance ability. Oftentimes I tailor lessons that ive created in my past to create lesson plans for individual students. I oftentimes use action research methods in helping me determine whether or not the teaching method that is being used in the lesson is effective for the student receiving lessons. I began assisting teachers during high school for extra credit. It later became my job during Full Sail. I worked extensively with grades K-5 on reading, writing and math skills enrichment. For teaching trumpet fundamentals, there are a handful of helpful books that I use. One of the main books I would suggest students to use is the Arban book. This book contains exercises for just about everything on the trumpet, ranging from excerpts that are challenging for beginners, and excerpts that are challenging for more experienced players too. Another book I would use is Clarke Technical Studies. This book contains a lot of exercises to help build dexterity in the fingers with playing the trumpet. Read More
