Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile! I graduated in from the University of Delaware in 2017 with my Masters Degree in Trombone Performance. Since then, I have been a sub in multiple orchestras and chamber groups around the Greater DC area! I love the fact that I can travel to so many amazing places and meet and reconnect with friends and colleagues while on this journey, and discussing new ways to expand my knowledge on teaching and performing, is something that has made my teaching style as unique as it is! I have at my disposal a variety of method books and exercises that I use with my students, depending on their age, level of achievement, and particular needs. I tend to use Accent on Achievement, the Breeze-Easy Methods, and the Belwin/Alfred Student Instrumental Course for young and developing players. As the student advances, I use the Rubank Advanced Method Volume I, then transfer to method books specific to the particular instrument being studied. Read More

Expression is perhaps the hardest area to instruct upon. I find the development of an individual voice essential for their success as a musician. It is necessary to emphasize the emotional and creative aspects of the music by encouraging the students to think of visualizations, stories or emotions while playing. Motivating the students is another challenge. The student needs to be excited about the music and love to play. I encourage students to choose solos and pieces that they are interested in. Read More

Sometimes while learning how to play an instrument teachers and students can get so wrapped up in how to play that they forget why they play. I always set aside time to work on pieces that are fun so that practicing and playing is not drudgery. Challenges are great to grow abilities but it is good to play music that is very easy for you so that the love of music and the joy it brings stays with you. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone
I began playing trumpet at a very young age, and have found it, and music in general, to be the most valuable means of communication available to us. I graduated from University of Maryland School of Music December 2014, and have played in a number of bands (both jazz and classical), taught private lessons, and worked as a festival clinician for local schools. I feel that private lessons provide an environment where both student and teacher may learn from each other, and where that knowledge is imparted in a friendly environment at a pace that is comfortable for both of us.
