For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Faber Piano Adventures, Standards of Excellence, and/or any beginning book the student will enjoy. For beginning adults, the Rubank Elementary Method books, the Older Beginner Piano Course by James Bastien, and/or any other books the student would enjoy. Along with those books of instruction, I would encourage students to learn level-appropriate solo repertoire. At the intermediate to advance level, I would encourage the Hanon Virtuoso Pianist book, the Sonata Album for the Piano from Schirmer's Library of Musical Classics, and the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet and for Trombone. I am a native of Northeast Ohio, having grown up in Ashtabula.  I received a BM in Trumpet Performance and will soon be finishing a MM in Music Composition and MM in Choral Conducting all from The University of Akron.  In addition to teaching lessons, I am the Director of Music Ministries at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Strongsville, OH.  I also perform around Northeast Ohio with community bands and choirs, for musical theater at locations such as the Near West Theatre of Cleveland, and at many local churches, bars, and other event locations. A few years back, one of my voice students landed a major role in one of the most successful movie-musicals in recent history.
